For the backpack exterior, Noodlehead recommends:
Canvas (7-9 oz.)
Waxed canvas (8-10 oz.)
Dry oilskin
For the lining, use quilting cotton.

Regular Backpack
For 44" (1.1 m) wide fabric:
Exterior fabric: 1 yd (1 m)
Lining fabric: 1 yd (1 m)
Mini Backpack
For 44" (1.1 m) wide fabric:
Exterior fabric: ½ yd (46 cm)
Lining fabric: ⅝ yd (58 cm)
If you are making the optional zippered front pocket, allow an additional ¼ yd (0.2 m) of both exterior and lining fabric.
Finished Backpack Sizes
Regular: 11½" W × 15" H × 5" D (29 cm × 38 cm × 12 cm)
Mini: 8" W × 10½" H × 4½" D (20 cm × 27 cm × 11.5 cm)
