Buy the Hovea Jacket and Coat Sewing Pattern by Megan Nielsen, a versatile women’s sewing pattern designed for creating a relaxed, drop shoulder jacket or coat with modern, effortless style. Perfect for dressmakers looking for a layering piece, the Hovea pattern includes multiple lengths and finishing options, making it ideal for everything from lightweight transitional jackets to warm quilted coats.
The Hovea Jacket & Coat features a loose fit silhouette with deep angled feature pockets and optional belt or tie closure. Choose from unlined, fully lined, or quilted constructions depending on your fabric choice and season. The pattern includes six views: View A is a mid-length unlined jacket with a collar band; View B is a mid-length quilted jacket finished with binding; View C is a lined coat with a collar band and belt; View D is a quilted coat with binding; View E is an unlined cropped jacket with a collar band; and View F is a quilted cropped jacket with binding. This makes the Hovea an excellent all-season sewing pattern for creating handmade outerwear.
Recommended fabrics vary by view. For quilted versions (Views B, D and F), use light to medium weight fabrics such as cotton, linen, chambray, or blends. Avoid thick fabrics to prevent excess bulk when quilting. For unlined and lined versions (Views A, C and E), medium weight fabrics like linen and cotton are suitable, as well as medium to heavy coating fabrics such as boiled wool, felted wool, or suiting wool. Pre-quilted fabrics can be used for all views, offering even more flexibility for your handmade jacket or coat project.
For the Hovea Jacket and Coat Sewing Pattern - Sizes 14-34 Curve, fabric requirements vary depending on the view selected. The Curve range is drafted specifically for a 4" (10cm) difference between upper bust and full bust, while maintaining the same design lines and style details as the standard size range.
For Views A and B (mid length jacket) in 150 cm (60") wide fabric, you will need approximately 2–2.8 m (2 1/8–3 yd). If using 115 cm (45") wide fabric, allow approximately 2.7–3 m (3–3 1/4 yd).
For Views C and D (coat length) in 150 cm (60") wide fabric, you will need approximately 2.3–3.2 m (2 1/2–3 1/2 yd). If using 115 cm (45") wide fabric, allow approximately 3.1–3.5 m (3 3/8–3 7/8 yd).
For Views E and F (cropped jacket) in 150 cm (60") wide fabric, you will need approximately 1.6–2.3 m (1 3/4–2 1/2 yd). If using 115 cm (45") wide fabric, allow approximately 2.2–2.7 m (2 3/8–3 yd).
If fully lining Views A, C or E, purchase the same amount of lining as main fabric. For quilted Views B, D and F, purchase the same amount of main fabric, lining and quilt batting to complete your Curve size jacket or coat.
